Circa 1850 lime mortar repointing and brick replacement
Built around 1850 this is probably the oldest house I have had the pleasure of working on. With its flint panels, colourful brickwork and gritty mortar it certainly made a nice change.
We dealt with the bottom band of brickwork, the area under the window and a small area of flint work. The brickwork was given a sympathetic prewash and scrub, the old mortar and half a dozen damaged bricks removed and replaced with supplied like for like period bricks.
The chosen aggregate we used provided a lovely gritty coarse textured mortar that was very close to the original, meaning given time the repair will blend nicely into the background.
Before the start of work
The area of work had sure seen better days with damaged bricks, missing mortar and previous bad cement repairs.

During works
The old mortar and damaged bricks have been carefully removed and the wall lightly washed down ready for brick replacement and repointing.
Completed work
The finished work had been left dampened and covered to allow correct curing during the current spell of hot weather. {gallery}projects/wherwell/1850_cottage/gallery/after{/gallery}
One uncovered the homeowner was delighted with the results and we think it looks great to, but most important we know we have done a quality time served repair that will serve this lovely house long into the future.
