Victorian Bay Window Lime Mortar Repointing Repair Winchester
This lovely Victorian bay window was given a new lease of life taking care to use as many of the original bricks. Built in the victorian era it had seen better days. It had previous bad cement repoints and repairs, missing mortar, cracked and missing bricks. This needed more than just a standard repointing it needed to be repaired.
The cement mortar was ground out and ingressed soil and vegetation removed. This revealed the true condition of the brickwork and in places lack of. Certain areas needed to be rebuilt and new (reclaimed) bricks added. When it came to repointing it was done in stages filing the deeper voids a little at a time giving each time to go off before reapplying the next. Alongside the repointing and brick replacement a few bricks were repaired to retain the lovely colours and characteristics of the original build.
When it came to repointing a lovely dark lime mortar was chosen to complement the old weathered lime mortar and add a touch of class complementing the surrounding grey woodwork.
This was a nice project to work on and I had many lovely passing comments.
